As we grow and learn as fathers ourselves, a new question arises for many of us as time goes by - how to look after our own fathers as they reach the point in their lives when they can no longer fend for themselves.
This can be a disorienting experience - watching a man who may have been a strong authority figure at one point become much less dependent as his body and mental faculties begin to go with age.
One of the big challenges we face in this regard is the question of rest homes. My own father's memory is beginning to decline, and we have considered putting him into Archer dementia care - although we haven't committed to anything yet. It will soon be inevitable, but it doesn't make the decision any easier.
